A dummy ticket booking is a flight reservation or itinerary you use as proof of travel plans, usually for a visa application or for onward travel rules, without buying a full-fare ticket. It is popular because visa decisions can take weeks and airfares can change or become non-refundable. This guide explains what it is, the types you will see, when it helps and how to prepare one properly.
What Is a Dummy Ticket Booking?
It is a flight document showing a route, dates, flight numbers and passenger name. There are two common forms, and they are not the same thing:
- A real reservation on hold: an actual booking with an airline or agent, held for a limited time and not yet ticketed. It can be checked with the airline using the booking reference (PNR).
- A flight itinerary document: a reservation-style document prepared for your application. It lays out the plan but is not an airline ticket and cannot be used to board a flight.
Be clear which one you have. Presenting an itinerary document as a confirmed, paid ticket is misleading.
When Do People Use One?
- Visa applications that ask for return or onward travel plans.
- Airline check-in where an onward or return ticket is required for entry to the destination.
- Immigration questions on arrival about onward travel.
- Planning while your dates are still uncertain.

How to Prepare a Dummy Ticket Booking
- Confirm the requirement. Check whether the checklist asks for a flight reservation, an itinerary or a paid ticket.
- Choose the route and dates. Use the arrival and departure that match your real plan.
- Use the passport name. Spell the name exactly as in the passport.
- Prepare the document. Enter the details on our flight itinerary tool and download the PDF.
- Cross-check. The flight dates should match your hotel booking, insurance and visa form. A hotel document is available too: see hotel booking for Schengen.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I fly on a dummy ticket?
No. An itinerary document is not a ticket. Only a ticketed booking with an airline lets you board.
2. How much does a dummy ticket cost?
Prices vary by provider. Itineraries on this site start from ₹90. Check the current price at checkout.
3. How long is it valid?
An itinerary document does not expire as such, but the dates must still fit your application. A held airline reservation can lapse within days.
4. Will a visa office accept it?
It depends on the consulate and its checklist. Acceptance cannot be guaranteed.
5. Do I need a return ticket for every visa?
Not always, but many tourist visas and airlines ask for proof of onward or return travel. Check your destination.
6. Should the flight match my hotel dates?
Yes. Hotel nights should fit your arrival and departure dates.
